| Nestled at the junction
of Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River and the Rideau Canal,
Kingston is a historic city of limestone and water, an idyllic
place to build a business, raise a family, or simply relax
and enjoy the historic sights and sounds along the lake. With
a storied military and maritime past, the city is rich in
history and tradition.
Kingston's downtown is marked by a stunning, domed City Hall,
built to serve as the first Parliament of Canada. More than
500 shops and boutiques are nearby too, to indulge any interest.
In the suburbs, just minutes from downtown, are two major
shopping complexes. Kingston boasts more than two dozen attractions,
including 17 museums, 200 restaurants, nine golf courses,
three wilderness parks and five performing arts venues.
Widely regarded as the freshwater sailing capital of North
America, Kingston is a playground for sailors with seven marinas.
Local waters also are home to 400 shipwrecks within easy reach
of divers.
In addition local features, the city is centrally located.
Toronto is a three-hour drive to the west, Ottawa just two
hours to the east. It takes less than an hour to cross into
upper New York State from a border crossing at Ivy Lea, just
east of Kingston. Gananoque, hub of the Thousands Islands,
is just 15 minutes east of Kingston.
